CSIR-INSTI KUAFO MARKET PLACE
Date: 31-05-2022
By the year 2050, the world population is expected to reach 9 billion people, and demand
for food will increase by 60 percent, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organisation. Increasing food production is not enough. Roughly one-third of the food
produced in the world goes to waste – a staggering 1.3 billion tons every year.
In Ghana, post-harvest losses account for 30 to 40 percent according to the Ministry of
Food and Agriculture.
It is against this backdrop, that the Institute for Scientific and Technological Informationof the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-INSTI) with support from thenCanadian Government and through the Modernising Agriculture in Ghana (MAG)programme had developed a digital solution named ‘Kuafo Market Place’.
Kuafo Market Place is an online platform for farmers, agro-input shops and marketers to
sell their goods and services. The main aim of this platform is to bridge the gap between
farmers and sellers and to connect all actors that form the agriculture value chain. There
are two versions, that is an online version (kuafo.csirgh.com) and a mobile App, which is
available on Google Play store. A user should be a member of a registered Farmer-Based
Organization (FBO), or farm households, other organisations and individuals.
Prospective
end-users will be verified by the platform managers after registration before an
advertisement can be made on the platform so as to prevent fraud and also to establish
trackability.
Kuafo Market Place is one of the digital solutions that form the basis of CSIR- Digital
Agriculture Innovation Hub. This digital hub is developed to facilitate the effective and
efficient delivery of agricultural extension messages to farmers and other actors along the
agricultural commodity value chain. The development of the digital solutions are line with
the objectives of the MAG programme that seeks to improve food security and also to
make the agriculture sector more modern, equitable and sustainable, as well as offering
a comprehensive market-oriented approach to farming.
Visit Kuafo Market Place to buy or sell farm produce, livestock, poultry products and
poultry feed, fish products, processed foods, pesticides, weedicides and other
agrochemicals, farm tools and implements, financial services, labour and many more.
