INSTI has five technical divisions, these are; Communications, Electronics, Fluid Science, Printing & Publishing Divisions and Geospatial & Information Science
The Communications division has the mandate to research and transform research outputs into communication/ software tools, equipment and communication systems aimed at solving communication problems for national development.The vision of the division is to become a center of excellence in the development and application of communication technologies and systems for national development.
The Electronics division has the mandate to research and transform research outputs into electronics/software tools, equipment and electronic systems aimed at solving electronic problems for national development.The vision of the division is to become a center of excellence in the development and application of electronic technologies and systems for national development..
The fluid science division has the mandate to design and produce fluid cells for the production of Brown's gas for energy generation, to introduce water in Ghanaian fuel mix through the use of fuel cell and an ability to design and conduct experiments on fluids, as well to analyse and interpret data .
The Division has a mandate to collect data for the design and construction of Thematic Maps that depict contemporary geographic knowledge on Ghana at the national, regional and district levels. The division is also responsible for providing public research and academic institutions as well as the industrial sector with resources and services designed to improve dissemination of, and access to indigenous and international Scientific & Technological Information.
The Printing and Publishing division has the mandate to provide printing and reprographic services for the production of scientific, technical literature and other printing services and products to support the socio-economic development of the country. Its mission is to sustain a scientific press that prints scholarly literature and other related materials to support national development.
